Project Overview
Building a digital home for the organization
Indigenous Football Canada needed a website that could bring together information about its programs, events, registration opportunities, news, and organization.
I worked with the organization to plan and build a multi-page WordPress website designed to support players, coaches, officials, families, and other visitors.
This was one of the largest website projects I took on during my first year of building websites and introduced me to the challenges of planning and developing a larger organizational website.

My Approach
Creating a structure for a larger website
I started by working through the pages and information the organization wanted to provide and used that to create the structure of the website.
From there, I built the website in WordPress using a pre-built template as the starting point. I adapted it to the organization's branding, content, programs, and functionality.
The website included areas for programs, registration, news, events, schedules, projects, and organizational information, bringing several different types of content into one website.
At the time, my focus was primarily on designing and developing what had been requested. The experience of working on a project of this size would later influence how I approach planning, content, and long-term website management.

Why This Project Stands Out
An early project that shaped how I work today
Indigenous Football Canada was one of the largest projects I took on during my first year of building websites. At the time, I used a pre-built template as the foundation and adapted it to the organization's content, programs, and needs.
Working on a larger website showed me some of the limitations of that approach. Templates can provide a quick starting point, but they can also introduce unnecessary complexity and make it harder to design around the specific needs of an organization.
The website was completed, but ultimately wasn't adopted as the organization's live website. I was paid for the work completed, and the project became an important learning experience early in my career.
Looking back, it showed me that a successful website project involves more than completing the build. Content preparation, responsibilities, ongoing management, decision-making, and launch planning all need to be considered alongside design and development.
Those lessons directly influenced how I work today. I now prefer to build around the organization and its actual needs rather than fitting those needs into an existing template.
The Final Product
A multi-page organizational website
The completed website brought together organizational information, programs, registration, news, events, schedules, projects, and other resources within one platform.
The project demonstrates the scale of work I was beginning to take on early in my development career and provides a useful comparison to the planning and development approach I use today.
